Sutherland District Athletics Club was founded in 1959 by a group of passionate local athletes who recognised the need for a dedicated athletics club within the Sutherland Shire. Their vision was to create opportunities for local athletes to compete, develop and represent their community at all levels of the sport.
From humble beginnings, the club quickly established itself as a significant force within New South Wales athletics. During the 1960s and 1970s, athletics enjoyed tremendous popularity throughout the Shire, and the club experienced substantial growth as increasing numbers of athletes embraced the sport.
Over the decades, Sutherland District Athletics Club has been home to many outstanding athletes who have achieved success on the state, national and international stage. The club has proudly been associated with athletes such as Marjorie Jackson, Eloise Wellings, Alexandra Hulley, Ollie Hoare and Patrick Fakiye.
Today, the club continues to be represented by athletes competing at state, national and international level, carrying forward a proud tradition of excellence established by generations of Sutherland athletes.
The club’s history is also marked by the dedication of countless volunteers, coaches, officials and committee members whose commitment has helped build and sustain a thriving athletics community for generations.
As athletics has evolved, so too has the club. What began as a small group of enthusiastic athletes has grown into one of the region’s most respected athletics organisations, providing opportunities across track and field, cross country, road running and race walking.
Today, Sutherland District Athletics Club proudly continues the legacy established by its founders, honouring more than six decades of athletic achievement, community spirit and service to the sport.
