From Sutherland to the World Stage: Boothroyd and Lampret Bound for Eugene

Published Tue 30 Jun 2026

While much of the sporting world has its eyes fixed on the FIFA World Cup, here at Sutherland District Athletics Club we’re keeping a close eye on two of our own athletes as they prepare for their biggest stage yet.

Sutherland District Athletics Club is proud to celebrate the selection of Ivy Boothroyd and Tammin Lampret in the Australian team for the 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships, to be held at the world-famous Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, USA.

Selection to represent Australia at a World Championships is among the highest honours available to a young athlete and reflects years of dedication, sacrifice and commitment to excellence. For both Ivy and Tammin, this achievement is the result of countless training sessions, unwavering determination, and the support of coaches, training partners, family and friends who have helped them along the way.

Ivy has earned her place in the Australian team in the 800m following a remarkable season that included a personal best performance of 2:02.93. Tammin will represent Australia in the 100m Hurdles, having produced a superb 13.71-second performance to secure her selection.

The World Athletics U20 Championships brings together the world’s best junior athletes and has long served as a launching pad for future Olympians, World Championship medallists and international stars. Athletes from around the globe will descend on Eugene in August, making selection alone a significant achievement.

Looking Ahead to Eugene

As preparations continue for the championships, both athletes are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to compete on one of the sport’s biggest stages and test themselves against the world’s best young athletes.

For Ivy Boothroyd, selection in the Australian team represents the culmination of years of perseverance, determination and resilience.

“It feels like a dream come true to make the Australian team for World Juniors,” she said.

“The last few years have been challenging, going through a stress fracture and stress reaction just before Nationals in 2024. Later that same year, I also had to overcome some challenging health issues which meant I couldn’t run for a few months.”

Despite those setbacks, Ivy remained focused on her goals and was rewarded when she received confirmation of her selection.

“To get that confirmation email I was over the moon and I got pretty emotional while I was at work. It just shows when you put your mind to something, anything is possible. That email reminded me of why I love this sport and why I started in the first place.”

Representing Australia has been a long-held dream for the talented middle-distance runner.

“Ever since I’ve been little, it has always been my dream to represent Australia. I just know my little 10-year-old self would be in awe, and I just want to make her proud. Every kid that plays sport would love to represent Australia and the fact I’m doing it at only 19 years old is pretty remarkable and something you don’t take for granted.

“It’s everything I’ve worked towards and I can’t wait to do my country and family proud.”

Looking ahead to Eugene, Ivy is excited by the opportunity to compete at one of the most iconic athletics venues in the world.

“I am most excited to race at Hayward Field, University of Oregon. I have always wanted to race at this particular track, which is one of the most famous tracks in the USA and home to Nike Track & Field, who I’m sponsored by. I can’t wait to race the best Under-20 athletes in the world and challenge myself.”

For Tammin Lampret, selection in the Australian team is the fulfilment of a dream years in the making.

“I was beyond excited when I found out I’d made the Australian team,” she said.

“After Nationals didn’t go to plan, getting the call from my mum brought such a sense of relief and took a huge weight off my shoulders. It was an incredibly special moment and one I’ll always remember, knowing all the hard work had paid off.”

Representing Australia is something Tammin has aspired to since she was young.

“Representing Australia means everything to me. Ever since I was young, I’ve dreamed of wearing the green and gold on the world stage, so to finally have that opportunity is something I’ll treasure forever. It’s an honour to represent my country and make everyone who has supported me proud.”

As she prepares for Eugene, Tammin is particularly excited by the opportunity to compete at the iconic Hayward Field.

“What I’m looking forward to most is experiencing the atmosphere and being part of the whole journey. Hayward Field is one of the most iconic athletics tracks in the world, so having the opportunity to represent Australia there and compete in the sport I love is an incredible honour.

“I think the moment I’m standing on the track waiting for my race, visualising everything I’ve worked for, will be the most exciting and unforgettable part of the experience.”

Both athletes will head to Eugene carrying with them the support of their coaches, teammates, families and the wider Sutherland District Athletics Club community.

For Sutherland District Athletics Club, Ivy and Tammin’s success is a source of immense pride. Their achievements highlight not only their individual talent and dedication, but also the strength of athletics within our local community and the pathways available to aspiring athletes throughout the Sutherland Shire.
